Corporate & Environmental Portraits
A whole-day, hands-on workshop with Bobbi Lane
Bobbi Lane
Saturday June 2nd, 2012, 9:30am–5:00pm

Great opportunities exist for creating interesting and effective portraits for businesses. Every business has a website, and many publish brochures, annual reports, public relations and publicity information, too, so the need for great imagery is important. For this workshop, we will concentrate on both the conceptual and technical aspects of meeting these needs. The participants will acquire tools and techniques that will assist them in becoming stronger and more marketable photographers.
A photo is the first contact that many clients have with a business so making the subjects look professional, trustworthy and friendly is of the utmost importance. We show how to establish rapport with the client and to help them relax in front of the camera. Posing and directing will be covered in great detail. Scouting locations and developing the lighting plan is done by deciding how much of the location is important to tell the story. Any location can be good, but it’s all about composition and lighting to make it work well.
The key to all strong portraits is lighting, so we will demonstrate a variety of techniques to create the style and look for a company. Much of this is problem solving and using the concepts to drive the lighting style. We show how to light a boring office to make it look interesting, how to use strobes to make light look natural and how to mix strobe and ambient. We will work with portable flash, studio strobes and natural light.
There will be a two hour lecture/demo in the morning and the participants will shoot all afternoon in a variety of settings. The shooting will be individuals, small groups and large groups. Basic lighting experience with either speedlights or studio strobes is required.
